Out here at 4/2 Karur Road in Thennilai, things move a little slower than in the big cities. Karur Sheep And Goat Promoters Producer Company Limited is basically a group of us from the local villages, like Thennilai South, trying to make a go of the livestock business. We aren't some big investment firm. We are mostly folks who grew up around goats and sheep. Our office is right there on the main road, and it’s a simple place where we meet to talk about breeding, feed, and how to get better prices for what we raise. It gets hot out here, and the dust from the road covers everything, but that is just part of life in Karur. We spend a lot of time walking the land and checking on the animals. It is hard work and your hands are rarely clean. Sometimes we have meetings that go on too long because everyone has a different opinion on how things should be done. But we are all neighbors, so we figure it out eventually. We don't have any fancy marketing people or a website with pretty pictures. We just know our sheep and goats, and we try to look out for the people in the community who are raising them. It is a basic way of living and working.
