Gani Hardwares

Gani Hardwares is located at 14, Madurai Main Road in Thuvarankurichi. If you’ve driven through here, you’ve probably passed us. The road outside is usually busy with buses and bikes, and a lot of dust comes into the shop. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling filled with everything from heavy hammers to the tiny screws that are impossible to find. It’s a bit of a maze inside. I’ve lived in Thuvarankurichi my whole life, so I know most of the people who stop by for supplies. They usually come in looking for something specific to fix a leak or a broken gate. We spend a lot of time just digging through bins to find the right part for someone. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use torches to see what’s on the back shelves. We don't really do much advertising; people just know we are here on the main road. It’s a family-run kind of thing. The shop can get quite hot in the afternoons because the sun hits the front window directly. We usually have a radio playing in the corner to pass the time between customers. It’s not a glamorous job, but every house needs a hardware store nearby. We’ve been at this spot for a long time and don't plan on going anywhere else soon. It keeps us busy and connected to the town. Some days are slower than others but there's always something to organize after the morning rush.
