D. S. M. Marbles

At D. S. M. Marbles, we are mostly busy with the heavy lifting. Our place is at 56 Kamarajapuram West. If you’ve ever worked with stone, you know it’s a dusty job. We spend most of our time out in the yard or in the storage area moving slabs around. It’s hard on the back, but it’s what we do. The shop at number 56 has been our base for quite some time now. People come by when they are building or fixing up their houses. We show them what we have in stock, and sometimes they find what they need right away. Other times we have to look through the back. Kamarajapuram West is a quiet enough area, which helps when we’re trying to load up trucks. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us and the stones. We usually have some dust on our shoes and the coffee is always a bit cold because we get distracted by a delivery. Every slab is different, so we spend a lot of time looking at patterns and checking for cracks. It’s manual work, and it’s honest. We don’t make big promises, we just show people what’s available. The sun hits the yard pretty hard in the afternoon, making the marble shine, which is probably the nicest part of the day. We’ve been here long enough that most of the neighbors know the sound of our forklift by heart.
