Alcot Fabrics

Alcot Fabrics is located at 47-A on the Second Cross in Bharati Nagar, just off Covai Road. Our building is usually full of big rolls of cloth stacked on top of each other. We deal with a lot of cotton and mixed fabrics. You can hear the hum of the looms if we have them running in the back. The space is a bit tight because we try to keep as much stock on hand as possible. It’s not a fancy boutique or anything. It’s more like a warehouse where we cut fabric to length for whoever comes in. We have a lot of threads and lint floating around in the air, so we’re always sweeping up. The light comes in through some high windows and hits the colors of the cloth. We’ve been in this part of Bharati Nagar for a good many years. Most of our neighbors are doing similar things, so there is always a lot of textile talk going on. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here on the second cross. We spend our days checking for flaws in the weave and making sure the orders are ready for pickup. It's a lot of physical work, lifting the heavy rolls and moving them around the floor. Sometimes we get a bit tired by five o’clock, but there’s always more to do for the next day. It is just the textile life we know.
