Our team is based out in Karwar at the Seabird Project. You can find us at P/O Amdalli in the Karnataka district. Vijay Tukaram Thorat is the one mostly handling the day-to-day operations at this site. It’s a very specific kind of place to work because we are so close to the water and the big naval project. The air has that salty smell all the time. The office itself is more like a functional hub than a corporate headquarters. It’s a bit rough around the edges, with some stains on the walls and floors that have seen better days. We have a lot of heavy-duty gear moving around outside, so it’s never really quiet. During the monsoon season, everything gets damp, and we have to be careful with the paperwork. We spend most of our hours tracking the progress of the infra work nearby. It’s a lot of physical coordination. We don’t have fancy furniture, just some sturdy tables and enough light to see what we are doing. People come and go throughout the day, usually wearing safety vests and carrying clipboards. It’s a very hands-on environment. We don’t do much in the way of formal meetings; we just talk over the plans and get back to the field. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do here in this part of Karnataka. We keep things simple and just focus on the daily progress at the project site.
