Vishal Publications

I have been coming to Shop No 8 in Bhagat Singh Market every morning for a long time. Being on Railway Road means there is never really a quiet moment, what with the trains and the general noise of the market right outside the door. Vishal Publications is tucked in here near the Clock Tower, which is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. The shop itself is pretty small, and we have stuffed it full of all kinds of printed materials. There are books piled up on the counters and more boxes sitting in the back corner. When the weather gets hot, the air feels heavy inside, but we usually keep the door open to get whatever breeze comes through the market. The Clock Tower chimes every hour, so we always know exactly what time it is without looking at a watch. Most of our day is spent dealing with printers or talking to people who walk in off the street. It’s a lot of manual work, moving heavy stacks of paper around and making sure things are labeled right. The neighbors in the other shops are all friendly enough, and we usually share a cup of tea in the afternoon when things slow down a bit. It is a simple setup, nothing like those big corporate offices you see in the city. We just stay busy with our work and try to keep things moving along without making a big fuss about it.
