If you go behind the bus stand in Karnal, near the Mahila Ashram, you’ll find us at Sco 41. E R Rahul Civics Classes is where we spend our afternoons and evenings. Civics is one of those subjects that can be a bit dry, so we try to just talk through it in plain language. The room isn't huge, but it fits the students who come by. Being near the bus stand is good because students coming from nearby villages can just walk over after they get off the bus. It’s a bit of a noisy area with all the traffic and horns, but we get used to it. We have some old benches and a lot of textbooks lying around on the shelves. We don't do any big advertising or fancy pamphlets. People usually hear about us from their older siblings or friends who came here before. It’s just a small local spot for learning about how the government and society work. We stay open until the last student leaves, which is usually late. Sometimes we drink a lot of tea while going over the chapters. It’s a very straightforward place. No bells and whistles, just a teacher and some students trying to get through the syllabus. We’ve been in this Sco 41 spot for a while now and everyone knows the landmark near the ashram. We just sit there and focus on the books until the day is done.
