I have been working here at the Panipat Refinery for a good while now as the Accounts Officer. The Indian Oil Corporation Ltd is a big place, and my desk is usually covered in papers. Panipat can be quite dusty and busy, but the refinery area feels a bit like its own small town. Most days start early here because the shifts are strict. I deal with numbers and balance sheets all day long. It is not glamorous work, but it is important to keep things moving. My office is located right in the middle of the complex. People come in and out all day asking for signatures or checking on their payments. I try to keep a clean desk, but it never stays that way for long. Living and working in the 132103 zip code area means you get used to the heavy trucks and the industrial noise. Sometimes I take a break and just look out the window at the pipes and tanks. It is a very practical life. I’ve lived in Panipat for years, so I know the local roads well. There is no fancy lobby here, just a functional space where we get the job done. It gets quite hot in the summer, and the air conditioning struggles sometimes. We just drink a lot of tea and keep going. That is how things are around here. It is honest work and I have grown to like the routine.
