Venugopal Kiranam & General Store

Sultanabad is a busy place, and being right on Ramagundam Road means we see a lot of people passing by all day. Venugopal Kiranam & General Store has been at 1-5-98-3 for years. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze inside when we get a big delivery, but we manage to find a spot for everything eventually. We open up early in the morning, usually while the street is still a bit quiet, to get the milk and bread sorted out for the regulars. Most people just stop in for a packet of biscuits or some soap on their way home. The shelves are always full of various things, from rice to small plastic toys for the kids. It gets dusty because of the road traffic, so someone is always wiping down the jars. We don’t have a big staff, just family mostly, so if someone is sick, the rest of us just work a bit more. Sometimes the kids from the neighborhood come in and take forever to pick out a single candy, which can be funny or annoying depending on how busy we are. It’s a simple life running a shop here. We know most of the people by name and what they usually buy before they even ask. The heat in the summer makes the metal roof quite hot, but we have a fan that helps a little bit. We just try to keep the doors open and the shelves stocked as best we can.
