North Karimganj Farmer Producer Company Limited got started because a few of us in the Jabda area were tired of trying to handle everything alone. We operate out of Abdul Wahab Choudhury’s house, which is near Fakirer Bazar. It’s a busy little area, and having a central spot to meet helps us keep track of things. Most of us have been farming this land for as long as we can remember. We don’t have a big corporate office or a staff in uniforms. It’s just Abdul and the rest of us sitting around, trying to make sense of the market. Sometimes the conversations get a bit long, especially when we’re talking about the costs of transport or the quality of seeds we’ve been getting. Farming in Karimganj has its own set of headaches, but doing it as a group makes it feel a bit more manageable. We aren't here to make any grand promises. We are just trying to get through each season and maybe save a little money by working together. If you’re near Fakirer Bazar, you can usually find someone from our group hanging around. We know the land and we know the struggles of the people living here. It is a simple life, mostly spent outdoors, and we are just trying to keep it going for the next generation. We don't have much, but we have our community and our work.
