Running Khattiee Constructions Private Limited out of Kargil has its own set of challenges, mostly because of where we are. Our office is at House Number 5 in Yourbaltak. If you know Kargil, you know that the terrain and the weather can be pretty tough for construction. But we’ve lived here our whole lives, so we’re used to it. We don't try to sound like some big city firm. We’re just local people who know how to build things that can stand up to the cold and the wind. Most of our projects are right here in the Kargil area. We don’t have a fancy office with a receptionist; usually, it’s just one of us answering the phone at the house in Yourbaltak. We do the kind of work that neighbors need—solid, dependable buildings. We don't make big promises we can't keep. If a project is going to be difficult because of the winter coming on, we’ll tell you straight. Our workers are all from around here and they take a lot of pride in what they do. We use the materials that work best for this environment. It’s not about being the flashiest company, it’s just about being reliable and getting the job done before the heavy snow hits. People here know us and they know where to find us. We’ve been doing this for years and every year we learn a little more about how to do it better. That’s just the way it is with our crew.
