CHORALA CONSTRUCTION PRIVATE LIMITED

Our small business, Chorala Construction Private Limited, is based way out in Karsha Zanskar. It's a high place and the winters are long, so we have to work fast during the summer months. Stanzin Jigmat and the rest of us started this up because we wanted to do something for our own community in Kargil. Punchok Morup is part of the family here too. It’s not like being in a big city where everything is easy to get. Here, we have to plan way ahead for every bag of cement or piece of steel. If we run out of something, it’s a long trip to get more. We focus on building things that can stand up to the cold and the wind we get in this part of Jammu and Kashmir. Our office is just at the house in Karsha. We don't have fancy signs or a reception desk. It’s mostly just us sitting around a table figuring out the next day's schedule. We do our own bookkeeping and try to stay organized, even when things get chaotic on a job site. Being a local business means we care about what we leave behind. We want the houses and walls we build to stay standing for our neighbors. It’s a quiet life here but the work is steady. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to keep our crew busy and do work that we aren't ashamed of later.
