Our foundation is located over in Gautam Basti, Khatkhati. You can find us at Sangita Chetri’s place. It’s a humble setup, but it serves us well for the kind of work we do. At Khatkhati Rehabilitation & Social Welfare Foundation, we focus on helping folks who are going through a tough time. It’s not a shiny clinic or anything like that. It’s more like a community hub where people can feel safe. We spend a lot of time talking to families in the basti. Sangita is usually around to help coordinate things. The work can be heavy sometimes, but we try to keep a positive outlook. There’s a lot of coming and going, especially in the afternoons. We don’t have a big corporate structure or a long list of rules. We just look at what a person needs and try to find a way to make it happen with what we have. Sometimes that’s just lending an ear, and other times it’s more practical help. The neighborhood is tight-knit, so word spreads fast when we’re doing something new. We like being right here in the middle of where people live. It makes us more accessible. It’s just a few of us trying to make a small difference in Khatkhati, one day at a time, without any fuss or complicated plans. We do what we can with the little resources we have available to us right now.
