Nelna Food & Spices Mill Pvt Ltd is based at 5/275 in the Kattukottai area of Pudupatti. It’s more of a mill than an office. We have the machines running most of the day, so it gets quite loud inside. You can hear the grinding from down the road. We work with different kinds of foods and spices, turning them into powders and mixes. The air is always full of a bit of dust from the milling process. We wear masks and old clothes because they just get dirty anyway. Pudupatti is a quiet place otherwise, surrounded by a lot of greenery. We have a few local workers who have been with us since we opened the mill. We don't have a big corporate structure; it’s mostly just the owner and the supervisors on the floor. We focus on getting the texture right for the spices. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to fix them ourselves, which takes time. We don't have a fancy entrance or a lobby. People just come to the side gate to drop off their raw materials. It’s a gritty, honest place where we work hard every day. We’ve been part of this community for a while now and we know the farmers around here pretty well. It is a loud job, but it is good work and it keeps us all busy during the long weeks.
