Deepika Store

Deepika Store is located at 5, Kannadasan Street in the town of Karaikudi. We are just a small neighborhood shop tucked away from the main commercial areas. It’s a quiet street most of the time, which is nice. We sell mostly dry goods, snacks, and some basic toiletries. The building is old and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it stays cool inside during the hot months. I run the place with my daughter’s help in the afternoons after she finishes her studies. We have a lot of glass jars on the counter filled with different kinds of sweets and savory snacks. Some of the older folks around here come in just to talk about the weather or the local news while they buy their morning coffee powder. We don't have any fancy scanning machines, so we just write everything down in a book. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the customer to wait while we run to the tea shop next door to break a big note. It’s a very informal way of doing things, but people don't seem to mind. We know who likes which brand of soap and who wants their rice in the smaller bags. It is just our little spot on Kannadasan Street where we spend our days and earn our bread. No bells or whistles, just a regular store.
