Shri Khuberan Furniture

Our shop is tucked away on Kannu Pillai Street. If you walk down the road, you'll probably smell the sawdust before you see the sign for Shri Khuberan Furniture. It’s a busy place with chairs and tables stacked up. We spend most of the day moving things around to make space. Some of the pieces are heavy and take two of us to lift. We have different kinds of wood lying around in the back, waiting to be turned into something useful. It’s not a polished place like those big malls. There are wood shavings on the floor and tools everywhere. We make things that people actually use in their houses every day. A dining table or a simple cupboard for the bedroom. Sometimes we get orders for custom stuff, and that takes a bit more time. The street outside is narrow, so loading the trucks can be a bit of a hassle. We just do the work and try to keep things organized, even if it gets messy by the afternoon. In the mornings, we sweep out the front so it looks decent when folks arrive. We have an old radio that plays some music while we work, though the saw usually drowns it out. Sometimes we run out of a certain type of polish and someone has to head out to get more. We don't mind the extra trips. It’s just how it goes in a small shop where we work with our hands and make things.
