About Suraj Rice Mills – Food & Beverages in Kapurthala
Suraj Rice Mills is on Warraichan Road. We’re right near Nancy Public School. In the mornings, you can hear the kids playing while we’re unloading the first trucks. It’s a bit of a contrast. The mill is full of heavy iron and the smell of raw earth. Warraichan Road is where we’ve set up our operation. We have a big gate that stays open most of the day. The yard is usually full of yellow bags. We don't spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders. It’s a working mill, so it’s messy. We have the drying area and the hulling machines. They make a rhythmic thumping sound that you can feel in your chest. The school nearby is a good landmark for people who haven't been here before. We've got a small room where we keep the records and take a break for lunch. Most of the time we are out on the floor. It’s hot work in the summer months. We drink a lot of water and keep moving. The paddy comes in, gets processed, and goes out again. It’s a cycle we’ve been doing for years. We don't have any fancy mission statements. We just show up and start the motors. That’s how it is at Suraj Rice Mills. We don't need much else, just a good harvest and the machines to keep working without breaking down every second.
