Shop number 8 isn’t the biggest place on Kapurthala Road, but it fits everything we need. Being near Jalandhar Palace means there is always a lot of traffic and noise outside, which you just get used to after a week or two. We spend a lot of our morning just moving things around to make space for the new stock coming in. It’s a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once, but we manage. The floor is a bit scuffed from years of people walking in and out. Usually, someone is always running out to grab a quick snack or a tea from the stall nearby. We don’t really have a set routine other than opening up early and making sure the shutters are down by evening. Sometimes the inventory counts don’t match up perfectly on the first try, so we have to sit down and go through the receipts again, which can be a bit of a headache. The fan in the corner makes a clicking sound that we’ve stopped noticing. Most of our day is spent talking to people who stop in and checking what’s left on the shelves. It’s just a regular shop where we try to keep things organized despite the chaos of the main road. No one here wears a suit, and we usually have dust on our hands by noon. We just take each day as it comes and handle the work.
