Gorakh Nath Mart

If you find yourself in Ward No. 24 over in Nanak Nagar, Mahrajganj, you’ll see Gorakh Nath Mart. It is a local spot where most people from the neighborhood come to pick up their daily needs. The shop isn't anything spectacular to look at from the outside, but we try to keep the shelves stocked with the usual things everyone asks for. Working here means you get to know everyone's name and what they usually buy on a Tuesday morning. It gets quite dusty sometimes because of the road outside, so a lot of the day is spent just wiping things down and moving boxes around. We have been here for a good amount of time, watching the area change bit by bit. The mart is pretty small, so things can get a bit crowded when more than three people are inside at once. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. People just know we are here. Sometimes we run out of things, and we have to wait for the truck to come down from the main city, which can take a while depending on the traffic. It’s just a simple life running a shop in Mahrajganj. We open up early, sweep the floor, and wait for the first customer. It is not a complicated business, just keeping the basics ready for when someone forgets to buy salt or tea leaves on their way home.
