Brk Spices

Brk Spices is located right in Village Kathapur. It is quite close to the sugar mill, so you can always hear the noise from there when they are working. Being in Kathapur, things move a bit slower than the big towns. I spend most of my mornings checking the bags that come in from the fields. Walterganj is the nearest post office, so we go there often for our mail and stuff. The spice business is something we just fell into because it’s what people around here do. Our place isn’t very big, just enough room for the grinding machines and some storage in the back. The air always smells like coriander or whatever we are working on that day. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, even on our clothes and hair, but you get used to it after a week. My neighbors are mostly farmers or people working at the mill. We see the same faces every day. There’s no big sign or anything, just the gate and the work happening inside. During the monsoon, the roads get a bit muddy, so it’s harder for trucks to get in near the mill. We just wait it out and keep the spices dry inside. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy sacks and making sure the spice is fine enough. We just do our bit here in the village and hope for a good season. It is a quiet way to live.
