Sukumar Hospital

Sukumar Hospital is located right in Kulasekharam. It’s a familiar building for most people who live around here. I’ve been working here for a few years now and it’s always a bit of a scramble in the morning. The shift change happens around eight, and that’s when the hallway gets really crowded. We have several rooms, and they stay pretty full most of the time. The walls are painted a light shade of cream, though there are some scuff marks near the baseboards from the stretchers bumping into them. Kulasekharam is a quiet enough place, but the hospital stays active 24 hours a day. You can hear the fans whirring constantly. In the break room, there’s an old fridge that hums loudly, and someone is always leaving half-finished cups of tea on the table. We don't have a huge lobby, just enough room for families to sit and wait. The windows look out onto the main street where you can see the local buses go by. It’s not a polished corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a regular hospital where we do our daily tasks and try to keep things moving. Sometimes the elevator takes a while to arrive, so most of us just use the stairs. It’s a lot of walking back and forth between the wards. We’ve grown accustomed to the rhythm of the place, the smells of antiseptic and the sound of footsteps on the linoleum floors.
