Being right here on Harbour Road in Chinna Muttom means we’re always near the water. You can smell the salt in the air every time you open the door in the morning. Our place at 15/6 is pretty straightforward. We spend most of our time dealing with whatever comes in from the boats at the dock. It’s a messy business sometimes and it definitely isn't a desk job for any of us. There’s always water on the floor and things need to be moved quickly before they sit too long. We don't have much of a lobby because most of the work happens in the back where the cold storage is. We wear rubber boots most of the day. It’s a lot of early mornings, sometimes starting before the sun is even up. That’s just the way it is when you’re working near the harbour. We talk to the fishermen and the drivers all day long. It's a busy atmosphere with a lot of shouting and engines running nearby. We’ve been in this spot for many years and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. We just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. The trucks come and go at all hours of the night and day. It's not the kind of place you'd visit if you wanted a quiet chat. We’re just here to get the products packed and sent out to wherever they need to go. It’s hard work but we are used to it.
