Anbu Rice Mill

Anbu Rice Mill is located at 64, Bunglow Street over in Puthiamputhur. It is a practical sort of place where we spend our time processing rice for the local area. The sound of the huller is something you get used to pretty quickly if you spend any time here. We started out with just one machine and have slowly added bits and pieces as the years went by. It is mostly a family affair with a couple of helpers to handle the heavy lifting of the gunny bags. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of husk and dust, which is just the nature of the work. We don't have fancy signs or a big lobby. People bring their paddy, we process it, and they take it back or we sell it on to the merchants. It is a lot of physical labor, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof. We keep our own hours mostly, depending on how much work is waiting for us in the morning. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend half the day fixing a belt or cleaning out a jam. That is just part of running a mill in a place like Puthiamputhur. We aren't interested in making things sound more important than they are. We just provide a service that people need to get their food ready. If you come by Bunglow Street, you’ll see the bags of grain stacked up outside the main door.
