A R S Supermarket

You can find us on North Street in Marthandam. It’s a good spot because people walk past on their way to the market. The supermarket is usually busiest in the mornings when everyone is getting their groceries for the day’s cooking. We have the usual stuff like lentils, rice, soaps, and those packets of spices. I spend a lot of time restocking the shelves because things disappear fast. The lighting inside isn't the best but people don't seem to mind. They know their way around. The floor is a bit uneven in the back corner. I always tell people to watch their step there. We have a couple of staff members who help with the billing and packing. It gets pretty loud when the shop is full. Everyone is talking at once and the cooling unit for the milk is humming away. Marthandam is a busy town and North Street is always moving. I like to stand by the door when it’s quiet and just breathe in the air. Sometimes it smells like rain and sometimes just like the exhaust from the buses. We don't do any big advertising. We just keep the door open and wait for the regulars to show up. It’s a practical business and we just focus on making sure we have what people ask for. If we don't have it, I try to get it by the next week. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, so we keep some candles handy just in case.
