If you head over to Panki Industrial Area, Site-I, you’ll find us right near Thumpsup Chauraha. Our unit, E-6, is usually easy to spot because of the sparks flying or the sound of metal being cut. It’s a rough and ready kind of place, full of welding gear, iron rods, and half-finished projects. The floor is concrete and usually has some oil stains or chalk marks where we’ve been measuring things out. We don’t have an office with a fancy desk; mostly we just stand around the big worktables and figure things out as we go. The air always smells a bit like burnt metal and grease, which is just part of the job here. When the weather gets bad, we huddle inside, but otherwise, the big doors are always open to let some light in. We’ve been doing this for years, and most of the staff have calloused hands to prove it. Lunch is often eaten sitting on a stack of beams or near the entrance where there’s a bit of a breeze. It’s not a quiet neighborhood, what with all the other factories around us, but we like the energy of it. We don’t spend much time on paperwork or computer screens. Our work is all about the physical stuff, bending and joining things until they’re solid. It’s honest, tiring work, and we’re okay with that.
