Vineet General Store.

Vineet General Store is located at Society Cross in the Lal Bangla area of Kanpur. We are right near the big Pepal tree, which is a good landmark if you're trying to find us. It’s a dusty part of town, but the tree gives a little bit of shade to the front of the shop. We’ve been operating out of this spot for years, serving the local families. The shop is small and can get a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once. We sell everything from tea leaves and sugar to matches and local snacks. Most of our day is spent weighing out items or restocking the jars on the counter. We don't have any modern machines, just an old scale that still works fine. The neighborhood is friendly, and we know most people by their first names. Sometimes the cows wander by the front door, and we have to shoo them away. It's a typical Kanpur life, busy and a bit messy but we like it. We keep a ledger for the people who pay at the end of the month. The ceiling fan makes a clicking sound, but it keeps the air moving. We aren't trying to do anything special, just keeping the shop open for whoever needs a few things for their home. It gets dark early in the winter, so we put up a small bulb outside to show we are still open. It’s our way of life. We are here every day except Sundays when we rest.
