We have been operating Vaishnavi Provision And General Store from Shop No 4 on Shyam Nagar Road for some time now. Being near the Virendra Swarup Education Centre means we see a lot of students and parents throughout the week. Kanpur can get very busy and dusty, so keeping the shop clean is a constant job. I usually start the day by sweeping the front and arranging the snack packets on the hooks. We keep all the basic kitchen needs like oil, flour, and spices. It isn’t a huge store, so I have stuff piled up quite high on the shelves. Sometimes people come in asking for things I don’t carry, and I have to tell them to try the bigger market. The regulars who live in Shyam Nagar know me by name and often stop to chat about how the neighborhood is changing. During school hours, it gets loud with all the rickshaws and vans outside, but it goes quiet in the afternoons. I keep a fan running behind the counter to deal with the Kanpur heat, but it doesn't do much. You can find almost any small household item here if you look hard enough in the corners. I try to keep the stock fresh, but it’s just me and a bit of help sometimes. It’s a basic place for your daily needs without any fuss or extra nonsense.
