Swan Tanning Industries

Swan Tanning Industries is located in the Jajmau area, at numbers 199, 205, and 207 in Gajoopurwa. We are right behind the Asharfabad Masjid, which is a big landmark for anyone trying to find us. Jajmau is famous for tanning, and we’ve been a part of that tradition for a long time. Tanning is hard, messy work. There’s no way around it. It involves a lot of water, salt, and various treatments for the hides. The smell is something you get used to after the first week, but visitors always notice it. Our space is spread out over a few plots because we need the room for the vats and the drying areas. We don't have a fancy office; we mostly spend our time on the floor checking the skins. It’s a tough environment, especially when it’s hot outside, but it’s what we do. The local community here is tight-knit, and everyone knows each other. We take our work seriously because leather requires a lot of patience. If you rush it, the quality just isn't there. We aren't trying to be a high-tech company; we use the methods that have worked for us and our families for years. It’s just us, some heavy-duty tools, and a lot of raw material waiting to be turned into something useful. When the prayer call comes from the masjid, it’s a nice moment of calm in a very busy, dirty workday. It is just the life we have chosen in this part of town.
