Shri Ganesh Sarees

You can find Shri Ganesh Sarees on the Karrahi sabji mandi road in Kanpur. It is a very lively area, especially in the mornings when the vegetable sellers are out and the whole street is full of shouting and carts. Our shop is near the Vivekanand Vidya Niketan, so we see a lot of parents and teachers walking past every day. The shop itself is packed with sarees of all kinds, from the heavy ones for weddings to the simple ones for daily use. We have stacks of boxes piled up, and sometimes it feels like the walls are made of cloth. Kanpur gets very hot, so we keep the fans running at full speed, but it’s still a warm place to be. We’ve been here at 50-k/3 for years, and we’ve seen the kids from the school grow up and start coming in to buy sarees for their own families. It’s a bit of a messy shop, if I’m honest, because we are always pulling things down from the top shelves to show someone a particular shade of red or blue. We don't do anything fancy with the display; we just let the sarees speak for themselves. It’s a local business where we know the value of a rupee, and we try to treat everyone who walks in like they’re part of the neighborhood, whether they buy a high-end silk piece or just a basic cotton saree.
