Kanpur is a big city with a lot of dust and movement, and our little corner here in the colony is where I spend my days. I’ve been handling the provisions for a long time now. The shelves are always packed with different types of flour, spices, and soaps. It is a bit of a squeeze inside the shop sometimes. I usually have a list of things to order every two days because stuff sells out faster than I expect. The N L C Colony is a quiet place mostly, which is nice. I know most of the kids who come in to buy candies after school. Their parents come later for the heavy grocery bags. I don’t use any fancy computers to keep track of things; I just write it down in a thick notebook. Sometimes my handwriting is bad and I can’t read my own notes later. The shop at 208011 is just a practical place for the locals. It isn't very modern, but it works for us. I keep the door open to let some air in, even if the Kidwai Nagar heat is tough. It is just me and the goods on the shelves, day after day. It’s a steady life and I don't ask for much more.
