Santhusti Provision Store

You can find us at 4, Shiv Katra Road in the Lal Bangla part of Kanpur. We are situated in the society area there. It’s a place where everyone seems to know everyone else's business. The shop is filled with provisions, mostly the kind of things you need for a daily meal. We have bags of rice and pulses sitting in the corners. The air inside usually smells like a mix of spices and laundry soap. Kanpur has a lot of dust, so we are always cleaning the glass jars. We don't have a big staff, just us working here. The street outside can get quite narrow when cars are parked on both sides. We see the same people every morning coming for their bread and eggs. Sometimes they stay to chat about the weather or the local news for a few minutes. It isn't a modern supermarket where everything is under bright white lights. Our bulbs are a bit yellow and one of them flickers sometimes. We write down accounts in a thick register with a blue pen. It’s the way things have been done here for a long time. When the sun goes down, the society gets a bit quieter and we start thinking about closing up the shop. We just provide what the local families need to get through their week without much fuss or any extra worry.
