Priya Hospital

Priya Hospital is over on the Barra By Pass, specifically at D-25 in the HIG World Bank area. The bypass is always busy with trucks and cars zooming past, so there’s a lot of movement outside our gates. The hospital building is a sturdy block that stands out a bit in the neighborhood. We’ve been here through a lot of seasons. Inside, the floors are that greyish stone that’s common in Kanpur buildings. It stays pretty cool even in the middle of summer. We have a general ward and some private rooms upstairs. The layout is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. The nurses know the shortcuts, though. We deal with a lot of emergency cases because of our location near the road. It can get pretty loud and chaotic in the casualty ward at times. On quieter afternoons, you can hear the birds in the trees outside the windows. We don’t have those fancy digital displays; we still use a lot of paper charts and hand-written notes. The wooden benches in the waiting area have been there since we opened. They’re a bit worn down but they hold up. The doctors here are local people who understand the community. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a place where we try to help people get back on their feet and head home to their families.
