Maa Gaytri Devi General Store is our little shop located in Maruti Estate, Kanpur. We are over here in the 208001 area. It’s a general store, so we carry all the bits and pieces you might need for your home. We’ve got flour, oil, soaps, and even some stationary items for the school kids. It’s a modest place. We didn't spend much on the decor because we think the items on the shelves are more important. The neighborhood is a mix of different people, and we see most of them at some point during the week. Some people come in every single morning for their milk and bread. We’ve known them for years. Running a shop in Kanpur means dealing with the dust and the heat, but we just get on with it. We have a small bench outside where people sometimes sit and talk for a bit. It’s not just about selling things; it’s about being part of the Maruti Estate community. We aren't a big corporation with rules and handbooks. We just run the store the way we know how. Sometimes we close a little early if there’s a family event, but usually, we are here from dawn till dusk. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, but it’s good work.
