Jajmau is famous for leather, so it’s no surprise Leather World is right here in Wajidpur. Our address is 184-A(I). It’s a gritty part of town, but that’s where the real work happens. We aren't tucked away in some clean office building with glass windows. We’re right in the thick of it. The smell of the tanneries is just part of life here. Our place is basically a big room with high ceilings and a lot of stock piled up high. We don't have air conditioning, just some big pedestal fans that rattle all day long. We spend our days sorting through different grades of leather. It’s a lot of physical work, moving heavy rolls around and checking for marks or scratches. We don't use big words or have long meetings in fancy rooms. We just talk about what needs to get done for the day and then we do it. The floors are concrete and a bit uneven in places. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when it rains hard in the monsoon, so we have to move the leather to the dry spots. It’s just the way it is here. We’ve been in Jajmau long enough to know almost everyone on the street. It’s a community of makers and traders. We don't put on any acts. If you come by, you’ll see us in our work clothes, probably covered in a bit of dust. We just keep the business going one day at a time. It works.
