Komal Saree

We are over at Gumti No 5 in Kanpur, running Komal Saree. If you live in Kanpur, you know Gumti is one of those places where you can find almost anything. Our shop is focused on sarees of all kinds. We have been here for years, and the shop has seen a lot of changes in the neighborhood, but we stay pretty much the same. We have stacks of sarees reaching up to the ceiling. It’s a lot of manual labor to keep everything organized. Every morning we sweep the front and get the lights on. We don't have a professional decorator. We just put things where they fit. People come to us because they know we have been here forever. We don't try to act like we are better than any other shop. We just do our job. The bells from the nearby temples and the honking of the rickshaws are the soundtrack to our day. We spend a lot of time talking to customers, showing them different prints and fabrics. Sometimes we have a laugh, sometimes we just work quietly. It’s a real place with real people. We don't have a mission or a vision written on the wall. We just want to sell sarees and make enough to keep the lights on and the families fed. It’s simple and it works for us.
