Hariom General Store.

Hariom General Store is on Lal Bangla Road, specifically at 85/S. We are quite close to the Ghunghat Marriage Lawn, so things get really hectic whenever there is a wedding season. You see people rushing in for last-minute things like ribbons, extra batteries, or snacks for the guests. The rest of the time, it is just the usual neighborhood crowd from Lal Bangla coming in for their daily supplies. The shop is tucked away but stays busy because of the traffic on the main road. I usually start the day by dusting off the packets of chips and making sure the fridge for cold drinks is actually working. The walls are painted a dull color and are covered with calendars from various companies that have been hanging there for years. We don't have a lot of extra space, so boxes are often stacked on the floor near the entrance. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when the delivery guys show up at the same time as the morning shoppers. We just try to get through the list of things people want without making too many mistakes. It is a lot of standing and reaching for things on high shelves, and by the time we close the shutters at night, my legs usually ache a bit. It is just a normal life running a store in a busy part of Kanpur.
