Dharamdas General Store

You can find Dharamdas General Store over at 7/148 in the Swaroop Nagar area. We are positioned very close to the Vidya Mandir School, which really defines the rhythm of our day. When the school bell rings, the street fills up with parents and children, and many of them stop by for a quick bottle of water or a packet of chips. The store itself is quite traditional. We have high shelves that go almost to the ceiling, filled with bags of pulses, spices, and cleaning supplies. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. Kanpur can get very dusty, so we spend a fair amount of time trying to keep the counters and the plastic jars clean. We aren't trying to be a modern supermarket; we are just a local shop where people can get their kirana needs met without any trouble. There’s usually a stack of newspapers near the entrance and some crates of eggs piled up on the floor. We know most of the families around here since we’ve been at this Swaroop Nagar address for quite some time. It’s a familiar routine, seeing the same faces and chatting about the local goings-on while we weigh out some sugar.
