Bantu General Store

Our shop, Bantu General Store, is located at 105/584 on P Road. We are quite close to the Gol Circle here in Kanpur. This part of town is always moving. I’ve spent most of my life around this area, so opening a store here felt right. It’s not a very big space. We have shelves going up to the ceiling because we need to fit everything in. You can find cooking oil, snacks, spices, and cleaning supplies. I usually keep the front area clear so people can stand and wait while I get their items. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the road outside, which makes things a bit loud, but that’s just life on P Road. I know most of the people who walk through that door. I know which brand of tea they like and whose kids are currently having exams. We don’t have a computer or a fancy billing system. I use a pencil and a notebook. It works fine for us. Sometimes I lose my pen, and I have to hunt for it under a pile of newspapers. The shop has an old wooden door that creaks a little when you push it. I keep meaning to oil the hinges, but I always forget once the day gets going. We just try to keep enough stock so that nobody goes home empty-handed. It’s a simple business, and we are happy staying at 208012.
