If you find yourself on Shiv Katra Road in the Lal Bangla area of Kanpur, look for the big Peepal tree. We are right there at 4-A/2. The tree is a great landmark because it gives some nice shade during the hot afternoons. Baba General Store has been around for a while now. I started this place because I wanted to work for myself and be close to home. We carry all the usual things like tea leaves, biscuits, and cleaning supplies. It’s a simple life. I open up early and sweep the front. Kanpur can be dusty, so it’s a constant job. I like talking to the regulars who stop by for their daily needs. Sometimes they stay for a minute to chat under the tree. It’s a very local vibe. The shop isn't very large, but we pack a lot into it. You have to be careful walking between the aisles sometimes. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It's just shelves and boxes. I try to make sure we have what the local families need. Being near the Peepal tree is lucky, I think. People use it to find their way. If you need a few things for your kitchen or some small items for the house, we are right here. It’s just a practical, honest place to shop in Lal Bangla. We try to keep some fresh stock of snacks for the evening walkers.
