Shukla General Store

You will find our store in Rail Bazar, right across the street from the State Bank of India. Being near the bank means there are always people around, either waiting for their turn or coming out after finishing their work. Kanpur is a busy city, and Rail Bazar is no different with its narrow streets and constant movement. We sell all kinds of general items that people need for their houses. From pulses and grains to pens and notebooks, we try to keep a bit of everything. The shop is an old building and the wooden counters have some scratches on them from years of use. It gets quite hot in Kanpur during the summer, so the afternoon hours are usually a bit slow when everyone stays indoors. I usually use that time to restock the shelves or clean up a bit. In the mornings and evenings, it gets quite crowded with people buying milk or bread. I have to be careful with the accounts, writing everything down as I go. It’s a simple life and I have known some of my customers since they were children. Now they come in with their own kids. We don't have any big advertisements, just the shop front that people recognize. Dealing with the heat and the dust is part of the daily routine here. It’s just a honest way to spend the day, serving the local community in the bazar as best as I can.
