Reetu Marble

Reetu Marble is located at 84/227-A, right by the Afim Kothi Crossing. If you know that intersection, you know it’s a landmark in this part of town. Our place is basically a big open yard where we keep all the stone. It’s a very central spot, so we get a lot of dust from the road and the heavy traffic passing through the crossing. We spend the day out in the yard, mostly. Whether it’s moving pieces around or showing someone the different grains in the marble, we’re always on our feet. The sun can be quite brutal out there, so we usually wear hats or stay under the small tin roof we set up. We don’t have a proper office building, just a small cabin where we keep the ledger and the phone. It’s a very basic way of doing things, but it works for us. People recognize the spot because of the white slabs leaning against the walls. Sometimes we have to wait for the traffic to clear just to get a truck out of the gate. It’s a busy life, and there’s always something that needs to be moved or measured. We don’t spend much time on decorations; the marble itself is all the scenery we need. The noise of the trucks at Afim Kothi Crossing is just part of our daily background music. It’s honest work and we enjoy the simplicity of it all.
