If you walk down towards New Friend Colony in Kanpur, you will find us at house 363. We are quite close to Jyoti Electricals, which helps people find us because their sign is much bigger than ours. Life in Kanpur can be pretty dusty and loud, especially with all the vehicles, but inside the store, it is just about managing the stock. I spend a lot of time checking the shelves to see what is running low. We have salt, oil, spices, and the usual household things people need for their kitchens. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, and we just sit by the door to catch a bit of light. It is a family-run kind of thing, so there is always someone you recognize behind the counter. We have seen kids grow up in this neighborhood, starting from buying small candies to now coming in for full grocery lists. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but they are covered with so many racks that you can hardly see them anyway. We keep the ledger updated by hand every night before closing. It is a steady routine that does not change much from year to year. We just try to keep the staples ready for whoever walks in from the colony. It is a good neighborhood and we are happy to stay right here at this spot near the electrical shop.
