Mishra General Store

Mishra General Store is over at 124 Gandhi Gram in Kanpur. If you are coming from Rama Devi Chauraha, we are just a short walk away. That intersection is always a mess with traffic, so people often duck into our street to catch their breath. The shop is a basic brick building with a blue metal shutter. Inside, it’s mostly shelves from floor to ceiling. We carry things like notebooks for the school kids, pens, soaps, and all the cooking oils people need. The counter is topped with a sheet of scratched glass, and underneath it, we keep the smaller items like batteries and sewing kits. Kanpur summers are no joke, so the shop stays pretty warm despite the fan. We have a lot of people who stop by on their way home from work to grab something they forgot, like a loaf of bread or some matches. I usually have the radio playing quietly in the corner, mostly news or some old songs. It’s a quiet place compared to the main chauraha. My nephew helps me with the heavy lifting when the new stock arrives on Tuesdays. We don't do much fancy display work; we just put the items where there is space. It’s been this way for a long time. People come in, ask for what they need, we have a quick chat about the neighborhood, and they go on their way.
