Our place is in the Tirpal Mill Compound, specifically at 2-B A on the 150 Ft. Road in Jajmau. If you know Kanpur, you know that Jajmau is the center for leather work. The compound is quite old and has a very industrial feel to it. There is always the sound of machinery or trucks moving in and out of the gates. Cawnpore Leathers Private Limited has been part of this landscape for years. The building itself has seen better days, but it is sturdy and serves its purpose well. Inside, the air has that distinct smell of leather and tanning agents. We have a small office area blocked off from the main work floor where we handle the billing and the paperwork. The desks are old wood, and we have calendars from three years ago still hanging on the walls. It is a busy environment, and things can get a bit messy when a big shipment is going out. We use the 150 Ft. Road for all our transport, which is lucky because it is wide enough for the big lorries. Most of the staff live nearby, so there is a lot of local talk during the lunch break. We don't have air conditioning in most parts, just big ceiling fans that move the air around. It is hard work, but it is what we know. We are just a group of people making sure the leather gets processed and sent off on time.
