Pandey Hospital

We’ve been here at Pandey Hospital in Nandhi Pura for a while now. It’s right near the Maati Police Choki, which everyone around Kanpur Dehath knows. It’s a busy spot, really. Most days it’s just us trying to keep things moving and making sure the people who come in from the nearby villages get seen. We don't have fancy lobbies or anything like that. It’s just a practical place. We’ve got some benches and the rooms are basic but they do the job. My cousin and I started this because there wasn't much else nearby. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just deal with it. You see a lot of the same faces from the neighborhood. People stop by even when they aren't sick just to say hello or ask about something. It gets pretty loud outside because of the police check post and all the trucks passing through to the main road. We keep a cooler in the corner for water. It’s not a big corporate setup. We just open up early in the morning, sweep the front, and get to work. Most of the staff live just a few minutes away so we all know each other’s families. It feels more like a big house sometimes than a hospital. We just try to keep things honest and simple for whoever walks through the door. That's pretty much how we've always done it here in Kanpur Dehath.
