Gurindra Rice Mill

Gurindra Rice Mill sits in Village Alladapur, right on Chahla Road. It’s a straightforward place. We have the milling area, the storage, and a small patch of dirt where the trucks park. It’s been here for years. My father used to work in a place like this, so I grew up around the grain. The noise of the blowers is something you just live with. We deal with the farmers from Alladapur and the surrounding villages. They bring in what they've grown, and we process it. Sometimes the grain is a bit wet if it rained recently, so we have to spend more time drying it. We don't have a website or anything like that. Word of mouth is how people find us. We keep a ledger on the desk to track everything. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things but it hasn't failed us yet. The walls are painted a dull white but they are mostly covered in a thin layer of grey dust now. We sweep up every evening before we head home. It feels good to see the floor clean for a few hours. We have a couple of dogs that stay on the property at night. They are good company. The work is hard on the knees and the back, but it’s what we know. We aren't trying to be the biggest mill around. We just keep the machines going.
