Essay Fashion

Our place, Essay Fashion, is at No. 2/64 in the Sadhwara neighborhood. It is not a big boutique with bright lights and mannequins in the window. It is more of a traditional setup where we focus on the stitching and the fabric itself. The room is usually full of the sound of sewing machines running and the snip of heavy shears. We have rolls of cloth leaned up against the walls and threads of every color imaginable scattered on the tables. Sadhwara is a busy area, and our shop fits right into the mix of houses and small businesses. We spend most of our time taking measurements or sitting at the machines. It is a bit of a tight squeeze when a few customers come in at once, but we manage. We don't have a big marketing plan; we just make sure the clothes fit right and the seams are strong. The lighting isn't the best, but we know where everything is kept. Sometimes the iron stays on all day because there is always something that needs a press before it goes out. We are just local people making clothes for other local people. It is a slow process sometimes, especially when there is a lot of handwork involved, but we don’t like to rush things. We just keep at it, one garment at a time, until the day is finally done and we lock up.
