Our place is right near the Talap Temple Post, so we always hear the temple bells in the morning and evening. It’s a nice rhythm to work to. We deal with textiles mostly, so there are always rolls of cloth leaning against the walls and stacks of fabric on every flat surface we can find. It’s not the most organized looking shop, but we know exactly where everything is. The floor gets covered in lint and little pieces of string by midday, no matter how much we sweep. Customers come in and out, often stopping to chat about the weather or local news before looking at what we have. We don’t have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us doing what we know how to do. Some of the fabrics have been sitting there for a bit, while others go out as soon as they arrive. The humidity can be a bit of a bother for the cotton, so we try to keep things moving. It’s a steady kind of life here. We open up early when the air is still cool and try to finish before it gets too dark. Being near the post office means there’s always people walking by, which keeps things from getting too quiet. We just focus on the cloth and making sure the orders are ready when people come to pick them up. It is a simple way to spend the day.
