Down here in Pullooppi, things move a bit slower than in the city. Our shop, Pm Stores, is right in the middle of Kannadiparamba. It’s a small building, and we’ve lived nearby our whole lives. We started the shop because there weren't many places close by to get basic things without traveling a distance. It’s mostly just me and sometimes my nephew helping out when he’s not at college. We have the usual snacks, some cold drinks in the fridge, and the basic dry goods. The fridge hums quite loudly, but nobody seems to mind. People stop by on their way home from the fields or the office. We usually have a bench outside where the older men sit and talk about the weather or the news. It’s not a big business. We don’t have any fancy branding or uniforms. I just wear my regular clothes and talk to whoever comes in. Sometimes we run out of milk early, and people have to wait for the next delivery. That’s just how it goes here. We know most of our customers by name, and we know who likes which brand of tea. It’s a quiet life and the shop keeps us connected to everyone in the village. We just keep the doors open as long as there’s someone around who might need something.
