Oommen Eye Clinic

Oommen Eye Clinic is on Fort Road. People walk past us every day on their way to the shops. The sign is a bit faded from the sun and the rain. Inside, it’s mostly quiet except for the hum of the testing machines. We check eyes. Sometimes it's for glasses, other times it's just because someone's eyes feel itchy or dry. We've been on Fort Road for a long time. The street outside is always noisy with cars and people heading to work. We have a small waiting area with some old magazines that nobody really reads anymore. It’s a simple setup. We don't do big flashy advertisements or anything like that. Most people find us because they live nearby or their parents used to come here. We look at charts and use those lenses to see what fits best for each person. It’s repetitive work, but seeing someone put on a pair of glasses and finally see the wall clearly is okay. The floors are tiles that we mop every morning ourselves. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit for it to come back on. We don't have a huge staff, just enough to keep things moving. We try to keep the appointments on track, though sometimes we run late if a case is tricky. It’s just a regular eye shop on a busy street. It feels like a part of the neighborhood now.
